I guess I would have to say I have been surprised by the response to my little journey. I wasn't sure anyone would find it very interesting. What I found was a lot of people are interested because they are having the same thoughts. I was surprised to find out that some of the people I invited to join my blog, whom I consider awesome Christian people, do not have a church home. I think we seasoned Christians are just tired and ruined for the ordinary and are dying for the extraordinary. I am excited to be the maverick to head out on the trail this week. I hope some of you will show up and join me one of these Sundays. Lori Gibson, glad you are going with me this week.

Welcome to the journey...
At the risk of sounding like a cynical, burned out, church staff, I will share how this all started. This quest began somewhere around the time my sabbatical from ministry commitments began. Uneasy about the traditional status quo of my experiences in the organized church I began to ask myself what, if anything, is authentic in today's churches. I read some books, talked to trusted friends, prayed, and did some research. Then one Sunday morning, standing in church, somewhere between the third worship song and opening prayer, the idea of a church pilgrimage struck me.
The main idea is to visit a different "church" each week for a year. The purpose is simple, to experience what churches in our valley (and maybe beyond) are doing during their weekly gathering times. This comes from the perspective of a churched person, with ministry and mission experience, not seeking to find a new church home, just gain perspective. My disclaimer is that my opinions are, of course, completely subjective commentary, as are all forms of freedom of speech. I will twitter where I will be each week and blog about my experience that day and what God is doing to refresh my perception and understanding of genuine "church."
On a side note, I have set up accountability with my pastor friends and have intentional fellowship planned with Christian friends. Prayer, Bible, and fellowship are non-negotiables on this journey.
So, let the journey begin.
